Enjoy some insider tips to find a great job at our Summer Job Fairs!
If you’re looking for seasonal employment in the Bow Valley, you’re in luck! The Job Resource Centre is pleased to be hosting two Summer Job Fairs. These events provide an ideal opportunity for candidates to connect with employers in the Bow Valley. Many employers attending the fairs will be showcasing seasonal summer jobs, starting in the late spring and lasting until late August.
You have two opportunities to attend a Summer Job Fair:
Thursday, March 26th at Banff Park Lodge in Banff from 1:00pm-3:30pm
Friday, April 17th at the Malcolm Hotel in Canmore from 1:00pm-3:30pm
Here are some tips if you plan to attend!
Do bring printed resumes with you to the Job Fair. As you connect with employers learn about the available roles, it helps tremendously to have copies of your resume on hand. You may want to leave a copy with employers so they can contact you about their available job vacancies.
Do research employers beforehand. This ensures that you’ll feel prepared when meeting with companies and businesses. Employers value meeting with job seekers who are already familiar with their company and have some input about what they could bring to the organization as an employee!
Do prepare questions. When conversing employers, they may ask you questions about your relevant experience and what type of work you’re looking for. However, it’s a good idea to prepare some questions for employers so you can narrow down your search. Our Ace the Fair Workshop will provide some in-depth examples of questions to ask employers that make the right impression!
Don’t say “I’ll take any job.” Some applicants believe that this phrase will show that they’re adaptable, flexible, and open to new experiences. In reality, employers would prefer to hear about a candidate’s past job experiences so they can gauge if the candidate is a good fit. When you express interest to an employer, showcase your skills and experiences to help the employer determine if there is a suitable role for you within their company or business.
Don’t be nervous to strike up a conversation with someone you don’t know. Job fairs are great networking events, so everyone is open to chatting! Employers will be interested in getting to know many potential candidates that could suit their roles, so don’t be shy about approaching someone to start a conversation.
