Job Description
Saturday through Tuesday. Your role would be to support a young adult with a developmental disability to be as independent from the family as they wish. A daily schedule will be put together and will change seasonally and as the individuals’ activities and interests change. Supporting the individual in daily routines, hygiene, laundry, food choices and prep, end of day routine. Assist client on walks, and community outings, supporting social interactions in the community and with peers. The successful applicant will be comfortable with dogs and cats and be able to maintain confidence of the client and the family.
• Support client with personal care and hygiene, brushing teeth and hair, showers.
• Teach life skills – meal prep, housekeeping, laundry, and organizational skills.
• Plan and prepare meals with assistance from the clients (building skills and getting client to use skills they have)
• Engage client in meaningful activities that they enjoy, introduce potential new activities
• Provide a balance of down time and activity for the client
• Be a pleasant and supportive companion.
• Report any unusual incidents.

Requirements and skills
• Proven experience as a caregiver
• Certification of Standard First Aid & CPR C (an asset)
• Knowledge of housekeeping activities and cooking with attention to dietary constraints
• Respectful and compassionate
• Good time management skills
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Independent worker
• Strong ethics & keeping confidences
• Physical endurance & fitness
• Act quickly, responsibly, and appropriately in cases of emergency
• High school diploma or equivalent
