Parks Canada – Highway Operations Unit
Various work locations: Mount Revelstoke & Glacier (Rogers Pass, BC), Lake Louise-Yoho, Kootenay (Radium Hot Springs, BC), Banff and Jasper National Parks.
GL-MAN-07 (C3) – Indeterminate, term, acting
$31.25 to $33.95 per hour (plus 15% supervisory differential. Supervisory Differential is a percentage that is paid on top of the hourly rate for those who occupy a supervisor level position.)

Duties

The Highway Operations Maintenance Coordinators play an integral role in supervising work crews and ensuring the safety of Canadian roadways. This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Train, orient, supervise and instruct operational staff
  • Manage daily administrative tasks and maintain accurate records/documentation
  • Coordinate / plan highway maintenance and the installation of projects for the Agency
  • Lead health and safety efforts in the workplace

Job Requirements

EDUCATION
Secondary school diploma; or, an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Valid class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement.

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in programs related to year-round operations and maintenance of a major highway.
EX2: Experience in heavy equipment operation, including snow removal, and labour disciplines.
EX3: Experience in the inspection of highway assets, highway construction, and associated equipment.
EX4: Experience in risk and Incident Management in a transportation operation.

Conditions of employment

• Security Screening: Obtain and maintain Reliability Status;
• Maintenance of a valid Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
• Willingness to wear identifier clothing and required safety equipment;
• Willingness to travel over roads closed to the general public and to work under avalanche hazard conditions;
• Willingness to travel and/or work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time;
• Requirement to work shift work – during day- and night-time hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays, provincial/territorial holidays and call back or standby duty.
• Candidates will be required to undergo and meet the requirements for a medical examination/pre-employment medical examinations and/or periodic medical checks.

Maintenance Coordinators will report to work in one of our five operating areas within national park boundaries. During peak of winter operations, this position will work with a full team of skilled trade, labour and administrative professionals.
