About Rocky Mountain Adaptive (RMA)
RMA is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to enable individuals living with physical, sensory, and neuro-divergent challenges to participate, learn and excel in all sport and recreational activities in the Canadian Rockies. As a multi-sport, year-round organisation who provides access to mountain sport and recreation, RMA offers adaptive sports equipment, specialised instructors, trained volunteers and unique training opportunities. Activities include biking, canoeing, hiking, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, swimming, and much more! Overview
RMA is looking for an energetic, caring, and empathetic individual who is passionate about creating equal access to all that the Bow Valley has to offer. The Day Programmer will provide 1:1 support to a neurodivergent young adult in community engagement and volunteering activities, as well as sport and recreation activities in the Canadian Rockies.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Community Support Worker has the following range of duties:
Help facilitate a regular weekly schedule of activities in the community:
– Community engagement and volunteering activities: volunteering at Canmore SPCA, visiting local libraries and museums, practice developing job skills at the RMA office
– Sport and recreation activities: hikes or walks, working out, swimming, climbing, skiing
– Support in navigating the local transit system
– Support in managing a budget for weekly activities
– Work together to plan each week’s activities and goals
Provide both practical and emotional support:
– Helping to regulate emotions and stimming by adjusting the environment and/or social setting
– Providing a consistent presence of someone to confide in and talk to
– Daily pick-up and drop-off at family home (where public transportation options are not available)
Communicate with the team of other Community Support Workers to develop the program, provide feedback, and make adjustments as needed. This will include completing a Daily Debrief at the end of each day, as well as regular team meetings.
Perform other such duties as may be assigned
Job Requirements
This role is supported by the programming team at RMA, and does not require extensive prior experience. Applicants should be enthusiastic about creating equal access to all that the Bow Valley has to offer its residents.
Mandatory Qualification:
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
Ideal Qualifications:
- CPR Level C and Standard First Aid
- Background and/or training in mental health support/first aid
- Background, training, and/or interest in the fields of health care, disability studies, support work, or other therapy-related fields
- Interest in activities like hiking, swimming, skiing, biking, snowshoeing etc
- Patient, understanding, compassionate
- Engaging, creative thinker, flexible
- Consistent, reliable, trustworthy
- Valid driver’s licence and your own vehicle, or valid class 4 driver’s licence (allows use of RMA vehicle instead of personal).
