Job Description

The primary role of the Residential Programs Counsellor is to provide assessment, emotional support, advocacy, and crisis intervention across the spectrum of Residential Programs. These include Emergency Shelter, Project Home, transitional housing, Bridge Housing, Residence and Affordable Housing. Residential Programs supports a 24/7 service delivery model and includes an on-call after hours program.

The Residential Programs Counsellor reports to the Manager of Residential Programs and works collaboratively with the Advocacy and Community Programs team.

Day in the life:

The Residential Programs Counsellor reports to the Manager of Residential Programs and works collaboratively with the Advocacy and Community Programs team.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Respond to crisis situations and requests for service across various Residential Programs (Emergency Shelter, Project Home, Bridge Housing, etc.), including conducting intakes and danger assessments for individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence.
• Provide client support through counseling, safety planning, goal setting, housing stabilization, and referrals, and coordinate the provision of basic needs aligned with an advocacy framework.
• Collaborate on community education, awareness, and prevention activities while communicating operational information to the YWCA Banff team.
• Maintain accurate documentation and data collection, and actively contribute to the development and review of Residential Programs, identifying gaps and trends.
• Participate in team meetings, after-hours on-call support, and uphold health and safety protocols, fostering a positive workplace environment
Position Details:

The Residential Programs counsellor is a full-time position working as a member of the Residential Programs Team. The role is delivered across a shift work-four day work week (36 hours), with schedule subject to change. The position is eligible for the YWCA Banff benefits & wellness program when working 22.5 hours/week. This position includes dedicated funding and space for learning and Professional Development opportunities. The salary range for this role is $50,700 – $56,550.

Job Requirements

• Degree or diploma in social work, psychology or a related social science field.
• Registration with a governing body preferred.
• 1-2 years’ experience working in domestic violence, sexual violence, homelessness, or housing.
• Experience in crisis intervention.
