Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the Supervisor of Parks is responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of the maintenance of Parks and Cemetery operation and capital works programs, within the policies, guidelines, and standards of the Town of Canmore. The Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining an effective budget, and the hiring and supervision of staff within the approved budgets and in conjunction with current personnel policies.

Job Requirements

Core Accountabilities:
• Develop, implement and administer effective maintenance programs for all parks and cemetery operations business areas (e.g. noxious weeds, playgrounds, horticulture, irrigation, trails, green spaces/parks/sports fields, ice surfaces, and off leash dog parks.) ensuring environmental sensitivity, asset longevity and public safety.
• Prepare, implement and track the annual Parks department operation and capital budget.
• Prepare reports and documents for Manager of Public Works and Senior Administration.
• Deliver presentations to Senior Administration, Council and various committees / groups regarding Parks/Cemetery operations and Town sponsored activities.
• Ensure alignment with the provisions of the Municipal Government Act, Town Bylaws and Policies, design guidelines, and master plans (including trail connection, outdoor recreational amenities, and tree protection)
• Ensure the Landscape Design and Construction Guidelines are current
• Research and draft reports on special projects as assigned by the Manager

Education & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in parks, turf, horticulture management or related field – Asset

Experience:
• Minimum 3 years in parks or operations supervision related work – required
• Strong communication skills – demonstrated listening, negotiation, written and oral abilities; specifically, the ability to clearly articulate and transform complex ideas into clear narratives – required
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including MS Office Suite, basic mapping/GIS – required
• Demonstrated ability to work in a customer-oriented and collaborative teamwork environment – required
• Organizational habits to understand, realistically plan for and meet deadlines, while adapting to changing demands and priorities – required
• Experience presenting and facilitating meetings with councils or boards, public, and stakeholder groups – preferred

Salary & Benefits:
• Salary Range: $99,208.20 - $104,722.80 annually. Compensation will be calculated based on the successful candidate’s related work experience and education
