Position Overview: The Facilities Supervisor serves the community by ensuring municipal facilities are well maintained, safe and clean. As Supervisor, this individual will oversee a team of 5 Employees and various contractors who oversee the operations in a popular recreational facility (i.e., Elevation Place has over 600,000 visitors per year). The successful candidate will manage daily operations and various projects. This will be done in a safe manner that helps ensure Town assets are well maintained and consistent service delivery. This position requires an active, engaged, and motivating leader. This individual oversees a maintenance and cleaning team that completes a broad range of tasks and will develop positive relationships with user groups. The position will also require a high degree of initiative, time management, problem solving, and conflict management skills.
Job Requirements
Core Accountabilities:
• Provides the leadership, training and technical guidance required to ensure the smooth operations of the Department
• Participates in daily operations of the team, working together with the team members as required
• Researches best practices, technologies and equipment that will enhance departmental operations
• Researches and implements initiatives that reduce our organization’s impact on the environment
• Ensures timely and accurate submission of reports and operational documentation
• Assists the manager with operational and capital budget creation and monitoring
• Willingness to work a variety of shift times and hours including evenings and weekends based on the departmental operations and unexpected issues, and be available on-call
• Knowledgeable in Town of Canmore services, policies and procedures
• Is up to date with facility operation best practices and how to adapt them to our organizational and business environment
• Proficient in the use and application of building and asset management software systems
• Is current with knowledge and application of current legislation and regulations, such as Occupational Health and Safety and building codes
• Competently performs facility inspections, procurement, budget management, contract management, project management, and human resource and administrative tasks
• Proficiently and efficiently uses computer operating systems, software and applications such as MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
• Follows and establishes standard operating procedures for safety, customer service, financial transactions, etc.
• Ensures client information is safeguarded, and confidentiality is maintained
• Anticipates sensitive issues and plans an appropriate strategy
Education & Qualifications:
• High school diploma - Required
• Post-secondary degree, diploma, or technical training in a related discipline - Required
• Certification building trade (journeyman level) such as HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing or carpentry - Asset
• Leadership Development training – Asset
• Knowledge of local government or public sector practices and procedures - Asset
• Certificate in Project Management (e.g. PMP) – Asset
• 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate from the Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) - Asset
• AARFP Certification in Pool, Building Maintenance and/ or Arena Level 1 & 2 – Asset
• Alberta pool operator certificate – Asset
• Computer software or programming certification – Asset
• Health & Safety Program-related training such as, but not limited to; hazard identification, workplace inspections, leadership in safety excellence, WHMIS – Asset
• Safety certificates, such as aerial lift operations, confined space, working from heights and working alone – Asset
• Standard First Aid (CPR and AED) – Asset
• Alberta Class 5 driver’s license – Required
Experience:
• 5 years of related experience – Required with post-secondary degree, diploma, or technical training in a related discipline
or
10 years of related experience – Required with high school diploma
• Experience in a municipal setting – Preferred
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft office programs – Required
• Intermediate Asset Management Systems, and Automated Building Controls – Required
• Demonstrated strength in analytical and mathematical tasks – Required
• Demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly – Required
• Organizational habits to understand, realistically plan for and meet deadlines, while adapting to changing demands and priorities – Required
• Previous experience in a supervisory position – Required
• Proven project management experience and expertise – Required
• Experience presenting information, progress reports and professional advice to senior management for decision making – Required
• Demonstrated success managing conflict – Required
• Understanding of building systems and general construction – Required
• Demonstrated supervisory and leadership ability including knowledge of: employment standards, safety standards, building codes, and risk management – Required
• Demonstrated negotiation skills – Required
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate on projects with a wide variety of diverse teams – Required
• Able to maintain a level of fitness and endurance required to perform the physically demanding operational duties, which occasionally include; high locations, confined spaces, cold environments, heavy lifting, pushing and pulling, industrial and light duty cleaning – Required
Salary & Benefits
• Salary range- $99,208.20 – $104,722.80 per year. Compensation will be calculated based on the successful candidate’s related work experience and education

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday to Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm; however, alternate work shifts, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays may be scheduled dependent on operational needs.
