Position Overview:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Recreation, the Child & Youth Recreation Program Coordinator will plan and deliver recreation programs and services for children, youth, and families in Canmore. This position develops and implements programs during after school hours and school breaks including, but not limited to, winter, spring, and summer day camps. This position is also responsible for the day-to-day operation of the child-minding room at Elevation Place and supporting Customer Experience and Facility Bookings teams at the Canmore Recreation Centre as required. Integral to programming is working with not for profit and private stakeholders to create quality programs. Working closely with the Supervisor of Recreation, the Child and Youth Coordinator is responsible for the supervision of day camp counsellors, childcare providers and child and youth recreation program leaders.

Through your combination of previous experience and education, you have well developed detail orientation, administration and computer skills and are not afraid to tackle everyday paperwork, reporting and evaluations that help ensure ongoing program success.
Core Accountabilities:
Is generally knowledgeable about Town of Canmore services, especially those targeting families
Is up to date with child & youth best practices and how to adapt them to our organizational and business environment; monitors developments in child & youth recreation initiatives through national and provincial affiliations (CPRA & ARPA)
Proficient in the use and application of Microsoft Office and Intelligenz Solutions software
Is current with knowledge and application of current legislation related to children & youth
Competently performs day-to-day administrative work related to the operation of child & youth programs and services
Anticipates sensitive issues and plans an appropriate strategy
Proactively monitors registration in classes and adjusts schedules to maximize participation and utilization of Town of Canmore recreation facilities
In partnership with the Supervisor of Recreation, contributes to the development of the Child & Youth budget and monitors ongoing expenditures/revenues to ensure services are delivered within set targets
Reviews monthly financial statements and reports on variances when requested
Provides behaviour guidance support and resources for program participants, families, staff, and contractors
Leads and instructs child & youth recreation programs, in addition to child minding, providing operational coverage when required
Purchases and keeps an accurate inventory of equipment/supplies and ensures equipment is properly maintained
Schedules and supports child-minding services through the Lil Bear’s Den at Elevation Place
Develops and implements an effective process to track child minding usage, revenue and expenses and follow-up with statistical reporting
Supports the development of standard operating procedures to mitigate risk and to provide efficient and effective operations; follows established standard operating procedures for safety, customer service, financial transactions, etc.

Job Requirements
Education & Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in a related field such as Recreation, Business Administration, Education and/or Outdoor Pursuits – preferred
Standard First Aid and CPR/AEC Level C – required
High Five, National Coaching Certification Program – asset
Experience:
Minimum two years’ experience working with children and/or youth in a day camp, education, or childcare environment – required
Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion – required
Physical ability to participate and lead day camp activities, e.g., swimming, climbing, games – required
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English – required
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – required
Familiar with Intelligenz Software – asset
Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities – required
Previous supervisory experience – preferred
Experience building partnerships and relationships with third-party organizations – preferred

Salary & Benefits:
Pay Range- $33.84 to $37.82 per hour. Compensation will be calculated based on the successful candidate’s related work experience and education
This is a full-time temporary position for 14 months
Anticipated start date: June, 2025
