JOB OVERVIEW

Are you passionate about building strong outdoor communities? The Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) is looking for an inspiring leader to drive engagement and growth for its 15,000 members and 25 local chapters nationwide.

As the Community Engagement and Services Director, you’ll shape the future of the ACC, ensuring its relevance for decades to come. You’ll lead a dynamic team, oversee membership services, manage key partnerships, support volunteer committees, and organize community events. Working closely with the Executive Director, you’ll contribute to strategic planning, set goals, manage budgets, and collaborate with key departments like Communications & Marketing, Programs, and Facilities.

This role is perfect for a charismatic leader, strategic thinker, and community builder who thrives in a member-driven, non-profit environment. Bilingual in French and English, you bring strong communication skills, a deep understanding of non-profit governance, and the ability to unite diverse stakeholders under a shared vision.

Job Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the Services Portfolio – Provide strategic leadership to the Services team, ensuring alignment with the ACC’s Strategic Goals and fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Manage Portfolio Financials – Oversee forecasting, budgeting, and financial monitoring for the Services portfolio.

Build and Strengthen Relationships – Develop and maintain strong connections with ACC local chapters, the board of directors, staff, and external partners.

Support Membership Operations – Assist the Membership Coordinator with daily tasks and initiatives aimed at growing and retaining ACC’s membership.

Support Local Chapters – Work closely with the Services Coordinator to execute larger projects and initiatives that benefit ACC volunteer led chapters.

Collaborate on Membership Communications – Partner with the
Communications & Marketing team to create effective membership messaging and outreach.

Monitor Membership Metrics – Track key performance indicators, such as member retention and overall membership trends, using the membership dashboard.

Lead Bi-Annual Forums – Plan, organize, and set the direction for the ACC’s bi-annual cross Canada volunteer gathering.

Support Key Partnerships – Maintain and strengthen partnerships with programs such as Girls on Ice Canada and Mountain Muskox Mentorship.

Support the Ice Climbing Canada Committee – Join calls, support with insurance compliance and help them grow relationships.

Organize ACC’s Annual Community Event – Plan and manage "The Summit Shaker," ACC’s annual community gathering.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with a member-based organization and/or not for profit governance

Education: Business Degree with focus on communications, community engagement, relationship building or degree in related field

Language: Ability to speak and write in French and English
Strategic Communication: Ability to craft and communicate the organization's vision, mission, and strategic goals to diverse stakeholders

Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build relationships and maintain positive communication across various levels within and outside the organization.

Conflict Resolution: Skill in mediating and resolving conflicts through effective communication and negotiation.

Written Communication: Expertise in crafting clear, compelling written materials such as reports, emails, proposals, and newsletters for different audiences.

Goal Setting and Planning: Expertise in setting clear, measurable objectives and developing detailed action plans to achieve the organization’s long-term strategic goals.

Resource Allocation: Skill in managing budgets, people, and other resources to align with the organization’s strategic priorities.

Data-Driven Decision Making: Proficiency in using data and analytics to guide decisions, measure performance, and adjust strategies as needed to achieve goals.

Performance Monitoring and Evaluation: Ability to track progress against strategic goals, evaluate outcomes, and adjust approaches based on results.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to collaborate across departments and teams to ensure alignment and collective effort toward achieving strategic goals.

Leadership and Motivation: Proven ability to lead by example, motivate staff, and cultivate a culture of accountability and performance that drives the organization toward its strategic objectives.

Innovation and Adaptability: Ability to introduce innovative approaches and adjust strategies in response to emerging trends or changing environments.
