Job Description
Reporting to the MLA, the Summer Student Intern will focus on community outreach, building strong relationships with community members across Banff-Kananaskis. The summer intern is part of a team that liaises between the MLA and their constituency, community groups, stakeholders, and individuals. The individual will be required to work in a challenging, variable environment and take responsibility for assisting the MLA and the constituency office team with community outreach and event support. This position is based in Canmore. Travel to events and meetings across Banff-Kananaskis will be required.
Staff the MLA at community events and activities
Contact community organizations about MLA participation in events
Liaise with caucus staff and other constituency staff on scheduling and outreach activities.
Respond to correspondence from constituents and stakeholders.
Assist with development and updating of MLA newsletters and constituency communications.
Attend community events and connect constituents to hear their concerns
Administrative duties
Support executing and organizing events for the MLA office
Assist with other duties as assigned

Job Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
Must have completed at least 2 years of a degree or diploma in a relevant field or equivalent work experience. (The candidate does not have to be returning to school in September, but the end date is negotiable to accommodate this if they are).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong research abilities, involving effective information gathering and analysis
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to meet deadlines, and adjust to changing priorities
Familiarity with MS Windows, MS Teams, MS Office, OneNote and databases
Willingness to travel within the riding and work flexible hours, including frequent evenings and weekends.
A demonstrated commitment to community volunteerism
A growing understanding of the political history of the constituency and a strong interest in learning more about Alberta politics
