The Communitea Cafe – a brief history!
Communitea Cafe came from an inspiration owner Marnie Dansereau had in the summer of 2006 with a mission in this changing world to unite people. A time before social media and smartphones, the importance of providing a positive space for people to gather and have a genuine interaction and experience, which has become even more crucial now. Of course through the years, the demand for fresh, healthy food increased and we emerged from a cafe to a busy restaurant!

To be a healthy & positive influence: In someone’s day, in our community and in our world!
Communitea Cafe was created to bring people together and be a place that nourishes with healthy food and drink options. Staff are warm, welcoming and personable in a world where people now have more interactions with computers and machines than humans. We are a restaurant/ cafe but this is really a “front” for sharing positivity. We want to be something people look forward to and seek and is accessible for them to come regularly.
We want to make a difference in our community by supporting local organizations like Rocky Mountain Adaptive, Spirit North, Banff Canmore Community Foundation, Stoney Nakoda Food Bank, CAMBA (Canmore Area Mountain Bike Association), and STARS air ambulance… We also have created Canmore as a live music destination by hosting hundreds of Canada’s (and the worlds!) best live music artists on our stage which helps the arts and culture scene in our community. (To name a few musicians: Gregory Alan Isakov, Strumbellas, Bahamas, Amy Millan, Frazey Ford, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Jon & Roy, & so many more)
In our world, we strive to plant 250,000 by the end of 2025. We also helped establish the Canmore Commercial Compost program by being a 1 year pilot to divert the majority of our waste and packaging to compost. We recycle everything we can. Also, on a global influence, we support the education of 3 children in Liberia through an organization called Universal Outreach.
Sure we are just a little cafe in Canmore, but if we can continue to bring a smile to faces that walk through our doors, we are living this mission. Thank you so much for being a part and helping to make this idea/ dream come to life!
Roles and Responsibilities of a Crew Member
The Crew Member supports the shift operations, sales performance, and guest experience in the
support your Team Leaders and Supervisors. This includes taking a front-line role in taking orders, preparing
beverages, packing food orders, serving guests, and maintaining cleanliness of the store and equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Daily delivery of an exceptional guest experience!
Serve and prepare Coffee/hot and cold beverages according to Communitea recipes and standards.
Support store opening and/or store closing procedures.
Organize and help merchandise food items, beverages, supplies, and retail products
Document waste, and spoilage using appropriate forms.
Ensure compliance with customer service, food safety, cleanliness, and occupational health & safety standards.
Accept customer payments through debit, credit, and cash ensuring strict adherence to cash control policies and procedures.
Use Point of Sales systems to take customer orders.
Answer guest questions on the flavor, ingredients, and nutritional qualities of products.
Keep all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked, and properly rotate product.
Practice safe use of all tools and equipment.
Properly package and display products for retail sale and take out.
Properly wrap and store unused products in coolers.
Wash dishes, utensils and other equipment.
Clean guest areas, food preparation stations, washrooms, storage areas, and coolers according to maintenance schedule and as required.
Attend all store and training meetings when scheduled.
Follow proper etiquette when answering phones and responding to customer enquiries.
Available for shifts on weekends
Perks & Benefits
Starting Hourly: $16.00 - $16.50 depending on experience
After 3 months: $0.50 increase with successful completion of ProServe
At Communitea, we share tips evenly across our team. We see on average $10/hr of additional earnings fluctuating throughout the year, paid out bi weekly between paycheques.
