Job Description

• Work closely with BVCC Program Coordinator and sessional facilitators
• Work on existing & new program development responding to BVCC needs & opportunities & community connections, often with community partners or sessional facilitators
• Establish & maintain good relationships with BVCC participants, community partners & relevant organizations
• Oversee grant funded projects being delivered by sessional facilitators e.g. theatre & craft making & wellness
• Organising & deliver community awareness events & initiatives with other BVCC board or staff or community partners e.g. International Day of Person with Disabilities with a committee of agencies & partners; Hidden Disability Sunflower Initiative
• Assist with fundraising planning & organising
• Recruit & screen volunteers through advertising & connections. Orientate to BVCC working with the Program Coordinator. Organise volunteer appreciation thought events, thankyous, social media post etc. BVCC has only a small number of volunteers
• Maintain relevant program statistics & evaluation data with input from ED & Program Coordinator
• Foster a culture that promotes inclusion, promotes ethical practices and encourages individual integrity and social responsibility;
• Ensure that BVCC achieves and maintains a satisfactory position within the community and a high standard for its programs and services.
• BVCC kids programs (twice a month) are early evenings & weekends & adult programs & events are varied – expect some evening & weekend work

Employment Location: The Bow Valley – mostly Canmore sometimes Banff, Exshaw etc.
Position Type: Part-Time employee or contract
Office & hours: Work from home. Flexible hours. Some work tasks may require standard business hours & need times overlapping with other BVCC staff or board members hours.
Start Date: Flexible
Duration: 1 year grant funded by the Calgary Foundation. BVCC reduces programming in July & August so possibility to work reduced hours for these months & extend contract longer than 12 months. BVCC will review the roles, outcomes & hours with a view for contract extension after the year dependent on future funding.

Bow Valley Connections Centre, is a 10 year old small non profit charity providing a safe & inclusive environment for people with developmental disabilities to connect. BVCC’s vision is that every person has a sense of belonging and thrives. We enhance quality of life by fostering social connections, personal growth and involvement in the community. Programming & event areas include creative, wellness, skills building & awareness. BVCC existing staff includes a 15 hr/ week Executive Director & a 30 hr/ month Program Coordinator that facilitates BVCC core programs.

Job Requirements

o Relevant experience and/ or qualifications in programming or a related field.
o Passion for contributing to a caring, inclusive community where everyone belongs.
o Proven track record in events, program development & delivery with kids & adults etc. Experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred but not required.
o Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse collaborators & knowledge of relevant local partners an asset
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
o Ability to multitask and manage time effectively & work independently
o Vulnerable sector check required
o First aid qualification an asset
