Job Description

Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity aims to inspire everyone who attends our campus – artists, leaders, and thinkers – to unleash their creative potential.

We acknowledge, with deep respect and gratitude, our home on the side of Sacred Buffalo Guardian Mountain. In the spirit of respect and truth, we honour and acknowledge the Banff area, known as “Minhrpa” (translated in Stoney Nakoda as “the waterfalls”) and the Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda) – comprised of the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations – as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Blackfoot Confederacy comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Shuswap Nations, Ktunaxa Nations, and Metis Nation of Alberta, Rockyview District 4. We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play, help us steward this land, and honour and celebrate this place.

The Opportunity

Banff Centre is in search of a Program Manager who will be responsible for the project management of an assigned portfolio of projects primarily related to Leighton Artist Studios program delivery.

The Leighton Artist Studios portfolio encompasses independent residencies for artists working on self-directed research-creation projects. A critical success metric is translating the vision of the director into an achievable, executable, program within the constraints of Banff Centre’s facilities, physical location, and staff resources.

The program manager in this area should have a knowledge of the artistic disciplines as well as an understanding of the operational time and resources required to execute each program.

This position will be charged with the project management, implementation, and quality control of assigned programs and events in alignment with a strong project management approach that supports the delivery of high-quality programs.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Leighton Studios and Program Partnerships, below are some key responsibilities:

– Accountable for documenting the project plan, scope of the program, scheduling, project deliverables, resourcing, quality control and implementation of arts programming at Banff Centre as assigned, based on program and scheduling priorities determined between Arts, Leadership, Operations, Development, Finance and Program Administration.
– Manage the day-to-day project management for the assigned programs, aligning the programs and associated events with Banff Centre’s values and strategic objectives, ensuring that all programs are built and delivered in line with Banff Centre’s design signature—transformative learning experiences for every participant.
– Develop processes for regularly communicating and reporting on program milestones, key deliverables, updates, and risk mitigation in consultation with the Director, and determine to whom information should flow and when.
– Align resource requests, planning, and allocation for programs within approved plans and budgets as well as within established deadlines and in consultation with delivery areas.
– This position must understand and respect the planning and operating needs of facilities, site-specific locations, production and coordination needs, and hospitality standing.
– Coordinate and/or participate in a regular process of program and events planning review and evaluation that ensures the highest ethical standards in project implementation activities and make appropriate recommendations as appropriate.
