Duties
Parks Canada is looking to staff multiple positions for the Aquatic Invasive Species programs in the Banff Field Unit. Aquatic invasive species are a threat to the environment and recreational activities. You will be responsible for permitting, education and compliance for the Aquatic Invasive Species prevention program through:
• Conducting inspections on watercraft and gear;
• Operating the self-certification program;
• Educating visitors on Clean, Drain, Dry practices and aquatic invasive species prevention regulations in the mountain national parks;
• Checking compliance with aquatic invasive species regulations at popular lakes and rivers;
• Collecting, recording, and entering data;
• Assisting with equipment inventories and maintenance logs;
• Preparing, setting-up, calibrating, operating, and maintaining equipment; and,
• Where time allows, participating in monitoring activities for aquatic invasive species.

Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to fill multiple term positions of 3 to 4 months duration, between June and September 2025 and may be used in the future to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise at the Resource Management Technician, EG 01 group and level with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as: Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

EDUCATION
• A secondary school diploma or approved alternatives or acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the position
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
• Experience providing education and/or compliance messages to the public, addressing visitor questions, and delivering quality customer service
• Experience following protocols and/or procedures
• Experience entering data into software programs (e.g., ESRI’s Survey 123, Microsoft Excel) and ensuring data accuracy

• Ability to anticipate and detect incidents of unsafe or improper behavior, take action and find solutions, including professionally resolving conflict, where applicable.
• Ability to provide comprehensive visitor information on a variety of topics including; aquatic invasive species, fishing and boating regulations, watercraft inspection regulations, and general park information/regulations.

ASSET EDUCATION
• Post-secondary education in biological sciences, enforcement, or communication.
Degree equivalency
ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience driving large trucks and towing and reversing trailers in challenging environments, such as high-traffic areas
• Experience operating and maintaining small engine equipment, pumps or pressure washing systems
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays, when required
• Willingness to set-up, take-down and move equipment (including large and heavy equipment, tables and tents)
