Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled, organised, and motivated Lead Hand / Carpenter to join our team at Alair Homes Bow Valley. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about high-end residential construction, takes pride in their craftsmanship, and is eager to take on a leadership role on-site.
As Lead Hand / Carpenter, you will be responsible for performing a full range of carpentry tasks, leading by example to maintain the highest standards of quality, site safety, cleanliness, and professionalism. You’ll oversee daily site operations, coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, and ensure materials and tasks are executed efficiently. Strong organisational skills are key, as you’ll be expected to create clear task lists, manage site and surface protection, and implement an effective close-out process at the completion of each project.
This role requires a balance of hands-on carpentry expertise and site leadership, with an emphasis on clear communication, attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage site responsibilities while keeping the Project Manager informed.
Key Responsibilities
– Drive efficiency across multiple sites through proactive coordination and support, working closely with the Project Manager.
– Candidates must come equipped with their own tools appropriate for framing, finishing, and general carpentry work. Mitre and table saw provided by Alair Homes.
– Take ownership of site responsibilities, working independently while maintaining clear and consistent communication with the Project Manager.
– Adapt to site needs by performing a full range of carpentry tasks as conditions require.
– Ensure craftsmanship meets Alair’s quality standards and client expectations.
– Read and interpret architectural and shop drawings with accuracy.
– Maintain a clean, organised, and safe job site, ensuring site protection (dust barriers, floor protection, etc.).
– Coordinate daily material requirements and ensure materials are delivered to site promptly to keep work progressing efficiently.
– Coordinate scheduling, deliveries, and on-site tasks with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
– Implement and maintain site and surface protection measures to prevent damage and ensure a clean, safe work environment.
– Adapt and problem-solve challenges unique to mountain construction (e.g., site access, weather, specialised finishes).
– Assist with basic scheduling, site safety protocols, and quality checks when required.
– Implement an efficient and thorough site close-out procedure, ensuring all tasks, finishes, and deficiencies are completed to standard.
– Create and maintain organised task lists to manage daily responsibilities and ensure nothing is overlooked.

Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of construction experience, ideally across all phases of construction (framing to finishing).
Experience in high-end residential construction or renovations, with a strong portfolio showcasing craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Proven ability to take ownership of daily tasks, work independently, and take initiative on-site.
Leadership skills with a focus on teamwork, mentorship, and positive crew culture.
Solid communication and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (truck preferred).
Secure long-term housing in Canmore.
Valid Canadian work permit and the right to work in Canada.
