What does the job entail? As Counsellor in Training on our Day Camps team, you will be responsible in assisting Camp Counsellors plan, and implement daily itineraries which provide creative, meaningful, and age-appropriate activities. Your number one priority will be the supervision, enjoyment, and safety of program participants. Our goal is to help youth in our community connect, build friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

The ideal candidate will be a student with some relative work, or volunteer experience in childcare, sport & coaching, or recreation.
Core Accountabilities:
Supports the Recreation team through the professional and fun delivery of Day camp programs
Provides consistent, high-quality customer service to Day camp families
Role models Town of Canmore (“Town”) core values and customer service standards by establishing a playful and educational experience that keeps children engaged
Participates in an empowered team environment through commitment to community members, customer service systems, and relationship building
Responds in a professional and timely manner to inquiries, complaints, and suggestions from the public, providing effective follow-up as required
Is generally knowledgeable about the Town of Canmore services and is able to respond to inquiries about recreation facility building hours and other age-appropriate recreation opportunities
With direction and guidance from the Day Camp team develops and facilitates camp activities, games and crafts
Follows established departmental standard operating procedures
Punctuality and promptness is paramount to support the program’s success
Take daily attendance and maintain accurate and confidential Participant Information Forms
Anticipates sensitive issues and plans an appropriate strategy
Able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions & outdoor pursuits
Term & Work Schedule: This is a full – time temporary seasonal position for 40 hours per week, leading camps during the Summer Break. While staff training takes place June 18th, 2028 – June 30th, 2026, one CIT will work during July (July 1st– July 31st) and the other through the August (August 4th – August 28th) camp dates.

Job Requirements
Education & Qualifications:
Entering or having finished high school grade 10, 11, or 12
Relative work or volunteer experience in childcare & babysitting, sport & coaching, or recreation- Asset
Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification, including AED – required
If over the age of 18, successful completion of a background RCMP/Police Records Check. – required
Experience:
Demonstrated ability to work as a team player within a recreation environment with a focus on exceptional customer service – required
Experience and a love for working with kids 5-11 years of age – required
Ability to have fun, laugh, and create an interactive learning environment – required
Demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly – required
