Job Description

artsPlace is Canmore’s community arts centre. We offer classes, workshops, and public performances for all age groups and across multiple disciplines including visual arts, ceramics, textiles, fabrication, film, music, and drama. Our facility in Downtown Canmore features a number of creative spaces, including a visual arts studio, ceramics studio, fabrication studio, a black box theatre, and a gallery space.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, and working closely with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and the Associate Manager of Communications, the Coordinator plays a key role in advancing artsPlace’s mission to grow the arts and celebrate culture in ways that build community and enrich lives.

The role supports The Art of Community Building, a special project exploring the feasibility of a larger community arts and culture facility in Canmore, as well as the coordination of ongoing marketing and communications activities that encourage program participation and ticket sales. This includes communicating with community partners, providing logistical support for outreach activities, and capturing, organizing, and sharing photo and video content on social media.

This is a 32 hour/week position from September 8 2026 to September 30 2027 at a pay of $25-$28/hour plus benefits and 3 weeks vacation plus a minimum 1 week closure over the winter holidays.

This is a Young Canada Works funded position and the candidate must be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, be a Canadian Citizen, permanent Resident or have refugee status in Canada and be legally entitled to work in Canada, and is a college or University graduate (certificate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate)

Responsibilities

Community Outreach
● Work closely with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and the Art of Community Building team to plan, coordinate, and support community outreach related to the expanded community arts and culture facility feasibility study.
● Coordinate and track community outreach opportunities and activities, documenting outcomes, next steps, and follow-up actions in PatronManager (CRM) and Excel.
● Schedule and support meetings with community partners, and follow up as required.
● Other related duties as assigned.

Communications & Marketing
● Work closely with the Communications team to develop, implement, and optimize social media campaigns that drive engagement and conversion among specific audiences who may not currently engage with artsPlace.
● Capture high-quality photo and video content at community classes, workshops, events, and performances. Edit and prepare content for digital use. Sort and manage asset bank.
● Build and update program and event web pages, create and manage Facebook Events, submit listings to community groups and partner organizations, and promote programs and events across relevant social media groups.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

● A passion for the arts and creativity and an appreciation of multiple art forms.
● A familiarity with, and understanding of, the diverse communities and demographic groups that make up Canmore and the Bow Valley.
● An understanding and appreciation of mountain culture.
● An ability to think creatively.
● An outgoing personality, creative flair, and comfort meeting and engaging with new people.
● Experience with community engagement, and/or an understanding of and belief in the importance of community engagement.
● Strong writing and editing skills, with experience creating clear, engaging content for both digital and print audiences.
● A post-secondary education in a related field (eg communications, marketing, business), or 3 years related experience
● Experience using multiple contemporary communications tools including: the Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc.), and a general comfort level exploring new/emerging digital and social media platforms and technologies.
● Interest or experience working for a charitable or not-for-profit organization is a bonus.
● Film and video production and editing skills are a bonus.
