As our Retail Operations + Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of store operations to enhance efficiency, customer satisfaction, and overall business performance, as well as leading Alberta’s Own online marketing efforts and in-store events.
You will be supported by the owner, Sales Manager, and an experienced sales team to ensure success for our vendors, the team, and the business.

You are organized, proactive, and comfortable leading a small team in a fast-paced outdoor environment. The ideal candidate not only has strong operational and management skills but also shares a genuine love for handmade goods and socially-conscious local businesses, inspiring the team to their best and connecting authentically with shoppers.

Business & Operational Management
• Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to improve workflow and productivity, as well as enhance customer experience.
• Manage daily operations to maximize sales, productivity, and profitability.
• Review operational and financial reports, monitor profitability, and prepare cash drops.
• Prepare, execute and track in-store customer shipping requirements and eCommerce fulfillment.
• Recognize areas of opportunity, and collaborate with ownership to execute strategic plans.

Inventory Management
• Ensure accurate completion of receiving, tagging, and stock counts.
• Support the customer experience through timely processing and movement of inventory to the salesfloor.
• Monitor pricing accuracy, signage clarity, and proper inventory storage.
• Maintain back-of-house organization, so staff can quickly locate inventory.
• Assist in preparation and execution of annual inventories.

Team Leadership
• With the Sales Manager, foster and maintain a positive, respectful, considerate and motivating work environment (safe, inclusive, and empowering).
• Delegate responsibilities clearly and foster accountability and teamwork.
• Implement, communicate, and ensure compliance with all operating procedures, processes, and policies.
• Provide leadership to the team, supporting the sales manager in consistently coaching and following up with the sales team to ensure the delivery of exceptional experience provided to each visitor.
• Maintain high standards of store organization and presentation.
Marketing & Events
• Post inventory updates on social media as new stock arrives.
• Capture photo and video content for reel and post creation.
• Develop an annual event calendar to engage local customers and support our community.
• Plan and bring to life events to engage and support the local community.
• Manage annual donation budget allocation and donation request communication/fulfillment.

Customer Experience & Sales
• Act as a brand ambassador by learning vendors’ stories, becoming an expert about their products, and sharing that information with the team and customers.
• Join and support the sales floor staff as needed to ensure sufficient staffing levels for maintaining the highest level of in-store customer experience:
• Consistently create an exceptional customer experience that encourages visitors to return, and to tell their friends about Alberta’s Own
• Engage with shoppers, asking questions and sharing makers’ stories to provide guidance as they select the perfect item for themselves or a gift
• Close sales with mindfulness, efficiency and gratitude to send customers off with a treasure that’s protected or wrapped to suit the need
• Strive to drive success for Alberta’s Own makers and the store through revenue and conversion
• Support a consistent customer experience through tidying, replenishment and other tasks assigned; self-manage to identify tasks that positively contribute to the in-store experience
• Share observations and customer feedback to foster continuous improvement
• Deliver personalized customer service to online and in-store customers.
• Provide timely, professional communication responses to customer inquiries arriving via website, social media, email, and phone.
• Handle guest feedback or escalated issues professionally.
